TO REDUCE THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT OF OUR OPERATIONS IS A GOAL WHICH TIVOLI HOTELS & RESORTS SEEKS TO ACHIEVE EVERY DAY.
To be “carbon neutral” means we have to be continually aware of what is happening and act to counteract the trends which are endangering our future: global warming, climate change and the unbalanced use of the planet’s main resources.
Therefore, our aims are:
/ To reduce our emissions of greenhouse gases through increased investment in energy efficiency, alternative energies and the optimization of already existing resources,
/ To offset emissions resulting from guests staying at our hotels through our support of several projects.
We are currently involved in the recovery of the Royal Forest of King Fernando II in Sintra and the development of the Maquiné Region in Brazil.
ROYAL FOREST OF KING FERNANDO II
(Sintra – Portugal)

The Royal Forest of King Fernando II lies next to Capuchos Convent in Sintra in an area managed by Parques de Sintra – Monte da Lua SA, a company founded exclusively with public capital which was created to manage the Sintra Cultural Landscape*.
A reforestation project is currently underway here, where the main aims are to preserve nature and local biodiversity, while also protecting and promoting the landscape and cultural and social values. Tivoli Hotels & Resorts are to contribute to this environmental project for carbon capture in this area by providing support for the planting of numerous types of trees which are typical of the region.
The aim of this project is to:
/ Plant a new forest covering an area of 20 hectares consisting of various types of trees such as cork oak, ash, chestnut, beech, Portuguese cypress, willow and Mirbeck oak.
/ Develop and implement a new monitoring methodology which will periodically measure the actual amount of carbon captured
* The Sintra Mountains were classified in 1995 by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, the first classification of its type in Europe.
MAQUINÉ BIOACTIVA
(Rio Grande do Sul - Brazil)

This is an environmental, economic and social project.
Located in Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil, the region of Maquiné was recognized by UNESCO in 1991 as an Atlantic Forest Biosphere Reserve. Due to illegal activities, just 2.7% of the Atlantic Forest is left.
By supporting this project our aim is to contribute to the sustained development of the community in the Maquiné* Region by:
/ Providing earnings opportunities for 300 families in the region, who are now working in reforesting and the organic farming of herbal medicines in an area covering 5 hectares;
/ Helping to preserve the Atlantic Forest,
/ Guaranteeing the survival and protection of numerous species.
You can also support these projects very easily and with results which you can assess and monitor. We will soon be supporting new projects.
