Tivoli Avenida Liberdade Hotel in Lisbon Timeless Elegance with Contemporary Glamour
With over 80 years of history, the luxurious Tivoli Avenida Liberdade Lisboa Hotel is recognised as a city landmark for its prime location on Avenida Liberdade and brilliant old world architecture. The hotel - the ultimate place to see and be seen - has always attracted celebrities and heads of state alike, from all over the world.
Timeless elegance and tradition are, as ever, paramount but now, a €15 million refurbishment ranging across the hotel’s bedrooms, plush leisure facilities and stylish restaurant concepts, has enveloped this iconic Lisbon hotel in an aura of modernity.
The charismatic personality of Tivoli Avenida Liberdade has been enhanced by renowned architectural firm Broadway Malyan, who carefully combined the property’s historical roots with its contemporary offerings, in a far-reaching renovation and interior decoration project. The graciousness of a former era in Portuguese arts, culture and society has been brought to the forefront through the small details of a contemporary setting, where the authentic and warm Portuguese hospitality, for which Tivoli has always been renowned, is ultimately key.
Superb from the Start
The imposing façade and entrance set the tone for sublime stays on a central shopping street. Step into the hotel's iconic lobby, bathed in abundant natural light and soft colours and imparting an aura of casual radiance. A natural meeting point for artists, celebrities and high level encounters for almost a century, it is crowned by a glass dome featuring a delicately woven golden trellis, acting as a gateway for Lisbon’s beloved rays. The plush furnishings are comfortable and welcoming, in rich tones of mahogany and turquoise.
Guests are invited to relax here with gourmet bites and a glass of wine at the new Lobby Bar. Varied tapas, snacks and sandwiches, as well as premium teas and a selection of the best Portuguese wines and drinks, are the perfect complement to conversation.
Even More Chic Style
After extensive work, 285 rooms and suites now offer extra space and a greater level of enjoyment for guests, whether travelling solo, as a couple or with family. Ten revised room types provide a spread of options for tranquil downtime and replenishing sleep in the Tivoli lap of luxury.
The classically designed Superior Rooms offer panoramic views of the Lisbon skyline, while Deluxe Rooms have lush courtyard views. Deluxe Family Rooms are the biggest new development, now expanded for groups of up to four people.
The renovations have also made way for improved premium service to complement the exclusivity of Tivoli Avenida Liberdade suites, including a new Executive Lounge offering a uniquely private area with secretarial services and complimentary refreshments daily, from 06:00 to 23:00.
Junior Suites, Club Suites and Executive Suites, varying in size between 45 and 64 sqm, feature simple yet modern designs and luxurious touches, such as large marble bathrooms outfitted with Bulgari and Hermès amenities. Diplomatic and Presidential Suite guests also enjoy 24-hour butler service.
Covering an ample 77 sqm and with a balcony overlooking Avenida Liberdade and the Tagus River, the Beatriz Costa Suite pays tribute to the actress from Portugal’s golden age of cinema, who lived at the hotel for over three decades. This suite features prestigious pieces from an art collection depicting her work, as well as romantic embellishments from period furniture, framed photos, books, colourful jars and jewellery boxes.
The 270 sqm Presidential Suite has exquisite pieces from the Ricardo do Espírito Santo Silva Foundation and the works of Portuguese artist Milly Possoz. It also has stunning views of the tree-lined avenue, with its designer shops in heritage buildings and bustling city life.
Cosmopolitan Dining
The hotel's wining and dining experiences move to capture the capital's vibrancy, blending Portuguese tradition with a soul for innovative discoveries.
Terraço, one of Lisbon’s most established restaurants, has taken a new twist with talented Michelin-starred Chef Rui Paula. Born and bred in Oporto, in the north of Portugal, he revels in creating dishes based on his memories - preserving flavours, textures, aromas and colours, in surprising recreations, full of originality.
Traditional Portuguese cuisine is combined with fresh elements and raw essences, such as the classic Clam Xerém, razor clams, sea bass or Alentejo style pork, served against fantastic views of Lisbon's seven hills.
Sky Bar is a must-visit attraction, renowned for offering the best views of the city in stylish surrounds. Post-renovation, the bar has new al fresco seating and more reserved and covered areas. Take the lift up to a perfect sundowner defined by excellent cocktails, live music and DJs, sushi and other small bites. An impressive spiral staircase is complemented by an art installation by Luio Zao, painted in wild colours and highly contrasting patterns. On popular demand, the Sky Bar is now open year-round from 17:00 to 01:00.
Cervejaria Liberdade, overlooking the broad pathways of the avenue, offers an excellent seafood experience. A vast selection of fresh fish, seafood, sushi and ceviche is presented on a traditional long bar, with flavours reinventing the spirit of a traditional cervejaria. The fresh fish and seafood come mainly from the rich Portuguese coast.
A few steps away on the ground floor, Café Liberdade offers the usual suspects of Portuguese sweets – cakes, doughnuts and other traditional delicacies, including those famously creamy pastéis de nata.
